About Teresa Purkis

Teresa Purkis was born in 1956 in Bristol, England, where she has lived with her wife for over thirty-five years. Her mum named her Teresa simply because she liked the name Terry—and the only time she used her full name was when Terry was being told off. Before turning to writing, Terry spent her career as a Teacher of Mathematics and Physical Education. In her youth, she was an accomplished footballer and hockey player; a dedicated sports fan, she has supported Bristol Rovers FC since 1966, sticking with the team through far more down times than up.

Her journey

Terry’s journey as an author began during a summer holiday in 1988, when she started her first novel, Deliverance—a lesbian sci-fi story written as a direct pushback against the government’s newly passed Section 28. Realising the project required far longer than six weeks, she tucked the finished manuscript into a drawer for twenty-five years before discovering the world of self-publishing. Today, Terry is happily retired—though her writing "hobby" has joyfully taken over all her spare time. When she isn’t working on her next book, she can be found playing lawn bowls, singing in her local women’s community choir, enjoying arts and crafts, playing computer games, or cruising the world. She also published the non-fiction book My Bristol: The History and The Culture, using her passion for photography to showcase the city she loves.

Who does she write for?

Now celebrating her tenth novel, Face The Truth—the fifth standalone instalment in The Perfect Blend series—Terry has carved out a unique niche in contemporary sapphic romance. She writes intentionally for mature women and allies of the LGBTQ+ community, crafting "later-in-life," character-driven slow burns. Her books stand out for featuring resilient, older women in leading roles, navigating realistic challenges, found families, and heartwarming connections. Focused on authentic dialogue and deeply relatable emotional landscapes, Terry’s novels are the perfect destination for readers looking for strong female characters and heartwarming relationships.
